COVID TEST INSTRUCTIONS REDESIGN

APRIL 2022

The goal of this project was to redesign the instructions for the self-administered COVID tests from the UC San Diego test vending machines. Before anything, I observed a peer take one of the COVID tests, then got to work redesigning the instructions.

THE START

I began by taking quick notes while I observed my peer taking one of the self administered COVID tests.

I noticed that my peer had a lot of issues with opening the capsule and the tube. In about fifteen minutes or so, I quickly sketched a redesign for the capsule itself, which would make it easier to open.

1. Initial Design

This was my initial redesign of the COVID instructions provided by the university.

2. Refinement

For my second iteration, I increased the size of the numbers, removed the arbitrary title, and better aligned the instructions to a grid.

3. Challenge

For this redesign, the challenge was to remove all text except for I found to be the three most important words.
